POSITION OVERVIEW

An individual who is a member of a multi-discipline team that provides general Electrical Engineering support, Construction oversight and Operations support for E&C Department managed projects during their design, construction, startup and commissioning, and plant operations after handover.

 

KNOWLEDGE

Candidate possesses knowledge of LNG processes, experience with large electric motors and variable frequency drives. Candidate will have experience with motor-driven LNG plant design. In-depth knowledge of national electrical codes, standards and regulations and their implementation in operating facilities is essential. Experience with plant-wide power management systems is an asset. The ideal candidate will have a combination of operational and design experience for large industrial facilities including LNG facilities.

 

RESPONSIBLITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • During FEL, supports evaluation of various LNG design concepts, including electric motor-driven LNG refrigeration compressor design and various combined-cycle LNG plant power configurations. Integrates with the design contractor to establish the electrical single-line diagram.
  • During Detailed Engineering, provide design recommendations as the project Electrical Engineer to participate in progressing the engineering design and monitoring the EPC contractor and subcontractors for adherence to LNG codes and standards and project design basis that provides safe, reliable, optimized constructability, and cost effectiveness to build, operate and maintain.
  • To provide Electrical Engineering expertise for the design, specification, and functionality of all electrical systems, and related processes. Knowledgeable in North America codes; OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) , NESC (National Electrical Safety Code), NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 70E, ANSI (America National Standards Institute), NEMA (National Electrical Manufactures Association), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), etc.
  • Familiar with High Voltage Applications including engineering design, specifications, construction and protective relaying systems, up to 138KV and 345KV Utility supplies.  
  • Proficient in ETAP (Electrical Transient Analysis Program)
  • Review the Electrical Single Line Diagrams, wiring diagrams, short circuit analysis calculations, equipment data sheets and other design drawings and project specifications for acceptability and compliance with the project requirements and provide optimization suggestions.  Participate in Process Hazard Analyses including SAFOP (electrical HAZOP) and other formal hazard assessments.
  • At the Construction Site, provides verification that the EPC contractor and subcontractors adhere to approved designs, project specifications, schedule and budget. During Construction, Startup and Commissioning provide verification and integrity of electrical systems in order to maximize system reliability during startup and commissioning.
  • Monitor installation of vendor packages against design guarantees and warranties and monitor equipment performance during startup and commissioning.  Ensure that any vendor required changes to equipment or documentation are handled through the Management of Change process.
  • At the Construction Site, provide Company controls to the safe work of the EPC contractor and subcontractors, adherence to approved designs, project specifications, schedule and budget that comply with safety and environmental regulations/procedures, and other statutory requirements.
  • During Construction, review and approve changes through the change order process and verify that documents and drawings are up to date.
  • During Construction, provide technical support to the Electrical Inspectors

 

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS)

  • Education and Certifications:  Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering.  A Professional Engineer’s License in good standing with at least one state is preferred.
  • Experience: At least ten (10) years of electrical systems working experience in a large plant or industrial environment. Engineering Design office experience during pre-FEED and FEED.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and administrative abilities are required.
    • An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment, particularly electrical hazards including arc-flash.
    • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 
    • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries and governmental agencies. 
    • Organized and able to manage multiple activities and programs timely and with a high degree of accuracy. 
    • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills. 
    • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.   Proficiency with ETAP software a plus.

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Job is performed in a typical office environment. 
  • Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.
  • Frequently required to travel, as business conditions dictate.
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations.
